Lighthouses I Visited

My favourite lighthouses

It’s hard for me to say which is my favourite lighthouse. But I certainly like lighthouses on deserted islands. I find them very inspiring to make up mysterious stories.

Especially in the UK, many of these places are considered haunted anyway and there are already mysterious stories and legends to be told, like the one about Roy Dog, which I shed light on in my article «Black Dog H(a)unt».

I discovered my love of lighthouses many years ago on my travels around Ireland and the UK. There are so many lighthouses on remote islands and so many stories woven around them!

It was not until later, when I travelled along the German Baltic coast, that I discovered that there are also many lighthouses worth visiting. The one I’m closest to is not on the coast but on an island in a lake: it’s in the Bavarian town of Lindau on Lake Constance. It’s just over two hours by train from my home city of Zurich. So it goes without saying that I visit it almost every year.

Below is my incomplete list of the lighthouses I have visited over the years, with some facts and figures, but also some trivia.
