Lighthouses in the UK

Warning: It can get very noisy here! Beware of the blast from the foghorn at Start Point lighthouse, Kingsbridge, Devon.
When my passion for lighthouses was sparked on my journeys through England and Scotland, I didn’t have a dog of my own. But I did come across the dog in England. Ugly, the pub dog at the Devil’s Elbow in Princetown, was a keen walker and swimmer. He joined me on my walks around Dartmoor and loved to rescue sticks from the leats.
When his owners retired, they took Ugly to Cornwall. There were lighthouses there, but Ugly was too old to be taken on long walks.
So it was many years before my two passions, lighthouses and dogs, finally came together. Unfortunately I never made it to England with Rösli. We focussed on the lighthouses around the Baltic Sea.
However, she and Ugly are now on board as I tell you about the lighthouses I have visited in the UK.

Ugly, the pub dog of the Devil’s Elbow in Princetown, was as good as mine, at least when I stayed in the Dartmoor inn during my regular stays in the South West. He plays a starring role in my story «Black Dog H(a)unt», in which I draw a connection between the Hound of the Baskervilles, who once made Dartmoor unsafe, and the Roy Dog, who lay in wait for fishermen and smugglers in his den near Portland Bill.
But Ugly had nothing in common with either of these beasts. On the contrary, he was the friendliest and best behaved dog I have ever met.
